Students in our Upper School are respected as young adults and treated
accordingly. We believe it is of equal importance that we help our students
develop their life skills in order to help them achieve and fulfil their potential
both academically and pastorally.
We provide Upper School students with the scope for specialisation in a wide
range of subjects at AS and A2 Levels, whilst encouraging students to broaden
their knowledge, understanding and skills. Students benefit from their own
study centres, personal study workstations and recreation areas.
Specialist tutors and careers advisers work together with the students to
provide pastoral and academic support the ultimate aim being achievement
and progression to self-fulfilment.
Boarding options are available to Upper School students and we are proud to
boast that our students, both boarders and day students, go on to excel in
higher education and/or their chosen profession.
We feel that we have achieved the perfect balance between encourgaing and
enabling academic excellence whilst maintaining outstanding levels of
pastoral care for all our students, and ultimately this is shown in the success
that our students go on to achieve both during their time here and long after.
The majority of our students go on to study at University, many of whom
gain a place at one of the Russell Group universities but all progress to a well
chosen institute that fits their own individual needs and aspirations.
Throughout the different key stages of the school there is strong emphasis
on practical careers advice and in particular, in the Upper School, the
university application process. Planning and researching begin early,
and a well-timed schedule of information evenings, careers fairs and
higher education events thoroughly prepares our students for their
future career choices.

The study of Art & Design is an important feature of the curriculum. Our
experienced staff specialise in a wide variety of techniques, presenting
students with aesthetic and artistic experiences along with opportunities for
self-discovery. Students are challenged and encouraged to become reflective
practitioners and are nurtured to develop confidence in their own intellectual
and practical abilities.
Housed in an inspiring historical building with original wooden beams, the
Art Department provides a perfect setting with far reaching views of the
countryside. In Years 7, 8 and 9 students follow a programme that
encompasses the National Curriculum and is a building block of
experiences in preparation for GCSE.
The Department consists of three main studios including areas for Fine Art, a
Sixth Form Art studio and an AS/A Level Textile studio. We set high standards
and have high expectations of our students, providing them with exciting
stimuli to enable them to experience success at all levels.
