We're proud to have a strong tradition of participation in the long-standing Derby Arts Festival, here's a round up… twitter.com/i/web/status/11365…
Our budding entrepreneurs of the future will represent Derbyshire at the Young Enterprise Regional Final after scooping the ‘Best Company in Derbyshire Award’ at the Young Enterprise Derbyshire County Final!
Vortex is our Young Enterprise team, made up of 20 enthusiastic students aged 16 to 18 years old. Held in the Toyota Suite at Pride Park Stadium, as well as seeing off tough competition from five other Young Enterprise teams from across Derbyshire, Vortex also walked away with the ‘Financial Management Award’.
The company’s business model aims to spread positivity through a range of innovative products. These include inspirational ‘Positivity Journals’, design-your-own ‘Creativi-tee’ t-shirts and personality pendant necklaces. Since its product launch earlier this year sales have soared, with Derby County players, top UK blogger Becky Goddard-Hill and former Dragon on BBC’s Dragon’s Den Sarah Willingham also praising its collection.
Sarah commented on Twitter ahead of the Derbyshire County Final: “SO PROUD of these girls! They started this business as a school project @vortexye & now they’re in the finals! Fab products, fab message £9.99 everyone should have a positive journal #youngentrepreneur.”
Eden Martin is joint Managing Director at Vortex. Commenting on an unforgettable evening, she said: “We are all so unbelievably proud; not only to win the award for ‘Best Financial Management’, but to be overall winners of the County Finals. Strong sales of all three products have put Vortex in a great position to grow even further. Plus positive feedback from Young Enterprise judges, as well as a former Dragon, gives us even more ambition to strive for success.”
Sally Frankish, joint Managing Director at Vortex, added: “I am naturally very pleased with how the team performed on the night, which was a culmination of all the hard work put into setting up the company, designing our products and marketing the brand. I am proud to say that we have illustrated our ‘positivity’ and passion throughout the competition so far!”
John Luke is a School Governor and Young Enterprise Business Advisor here at Ockbrook. He said: “Vortex’s excellent product range is up there with the best I have ever seen produced by a Young Enterprise company. The team is outstanding and I’m delighted that their hard work has been rewarded with progression to the East Midlands Regional final.”
Headmaster, Tom Brooksby added: “Vortex continues to go from strength to strength, with a fantastic range of eye-catching products. They should be extremely proud to represent Derbyshire at the next stage of the competition, as well as fly the flag for our school.”
The Regional Final takes place in June at Nottingham Trent University. The event is a great opportunity to see Young Enterprise companies from the East Midlands in action delivering professional presentations and exhibiting their products. With a panel of judges present, the winning ‘Company of the Year’ will go through to the National Final later in the year.
Young Enterprise is a national inter-schools competition that encourages, fosters and harnesses the entrepreneurial spirit of young people. Teams set up their own micro-businesses and are judged on all aspects of a company’s performance, from sales and marketing to finance.
