Good luck to our students performing at #DerbyArtsFestival Speech and Drama classes this week!
We’re only half way through the first term of a brand new academic year and already our Drama department is thriving on success, with enthusiastic students taking centre stage.
Lucy Colgan is Head of Drama at Ockbrook:
“Drama is thriving here at Ockbrook and we have so much to look forward to throughout the next few months.
“Bugsy Malone is this year’s school production and we were delighted to welcome over 45 students at the final audition. Rehearsals are well underway and once again we are delighted to be working alongside the Director of Music, Mr Swindell, to bring this well-loved gangster classic to the stage in March 2019.
“Our Drama Scholars, GCSE and A Level students enjoyed a trip to Nottingham Playhouse and participated in a masterclass with the Director of Kindertransport, Fiona Buffini, before watching the evening show. This was a hugely exciting opportunity for students to work with industry professionals and develop a deeper appreciation of live theatre.
“Our Primary School students have been invited to watch not one but two exclusive performances from our Senior School students. The Year 10 GCSE group performed a ‘Theatre in Education’ piece called The Tree, which explores the impact of technology on our environmental resources, to Year 5 and Year 6 students. The same group will get to enjoy a pantomime performance from our new Year 7 students on Thursday 6th December.”
