KEY STAGE 3:

The Key Stage 3 curriculum in Modern Languages is designed to give students an excellent foundation of vocabulary and grammar in the languages studied.

Students will also gain a wealth of experience in the following skills, in preparation for GCSE:

French:

In Year 7 students follow Tricolore 5eme Edition Book 1

In Year 8 students follow Tricolore 5eme Edition Book 1

In Year 9 students follow Tricolore 5eme Edition Book 2

German:

In Year 7 students follow Echo Express Book 1

In Year 8 students follow Echo Express Book 1

In Year 9 students follow Echo Express Book 2

Spanish:

In Year 8 students follow Listos 1

In Year 9 students follow Listos 2

Students are encouraged to use the app quizlet to practise and learn their vocabulary.

 

KEY STAGE 4:

Examination Board/Code: AQA

French – 8658   German – 8668   Spanish – 8698

Students can choose to study either one or two languages at GCSE.

All students follow the AQA GCSE Textbook in their chosen language/s.

There are three main themes:

Theme 1: Identity and Culture

Theme 2: Local, national, international and global areas of interest

Theme 3: Current and future employment

Students will practise the following skills in each theme in order to prepare them for the GCSE examinations:

As well as the textbook students have a log in for, Kerboodle.com which gives them full access to the textbook online as well as offering further interactive activities to practise grammar and the different skills.

Students are encouraged to use the app quizlet to practise and learn their vocabulary.

Within which the themes of Being a young person in French/German-speaking society, Diversity and difference and Understanding the French/German-speaking world will be explored.

Students will also explore a historical theme as follows:

German – The making of modern Germany: 1989 onwards

While studying these areas of interest and themes, learners will, through the use of authentic materials, develop knowledge and understanding through speaking, listening to, reading and writing in French and German.
